Much Ado About Nothing

This design focused on closely on the lyrics of the music by The Carpenters, with excerpts from the text stencilled on the dancers tops and the lyrics written, wrapping themselves around the skirts that were worn by both the male and female dancers. The choreographer and I decided to dress the male dancers also in skirts as a means of making the whole ensemble seem more androgynous with the exception of one dancer who was dressed in a grey suit. As the piece progressed the music and the choreography became more chaotic and the costumes that were initially greyscale slowly became more colourful, with the gradual replacement of costume items, until the whole ensemble was in full colour. Only one female dancer remained in black and white and interacted with the dancer in the suit, with their choreography remaining grounded in reality around a table and chair.

Dieses Bühnenbild konzentrierte sich auf die Lyrik der Music von “The Carpenters”. Mit Schablonen wurden Textauszüge auf die Oberteile und per Hand auf die Röcke der Tänzer geschrieben. Mit Ausnahme eines einzelnen Tänzers, der in einen grauen Anzug gekleidet wurde, entschieden sich die Choreografin und ich das Ensemble androgyn erscheinen zu lassen, wobei alle Röcke trugen. Während des Stückes wurden die Musik und die Choreografie zunehmend chaotischer und die Kostümteile, welche zuerst schwarz/weiss waren, wurden durch das stückweise Ersetzen identischer Teile langsam bunter, bis schlieβlich das ganze Ensemble vollständig in Farbe gekleidet war. Nur eine Tänzerin blieb in schwarz/weis gekleidet und interagierte mit dem Tänzer im grauen Anzug: sie waren für den Rest ihrer Darbietung auf einen Tisch und Stuhl begrenzt und so symbolisch mit der Realität verbunden.
